Connecting the dots: Engaged journalism, trust, revenue, and civic engagement

Lindsay Green-Barber of Impact Architects has published new research looking at best practices for building trust, generating revenue and fostering civic engagement, mapping out the work of four organisations in the US: Outlier Media, ProPublica, FreePress and McClatchy.

Key quote? “Organisations that are able to clearly articulate a shared mission with their communities have the strongest foundation upon which to build relationships.”

Key takeaway? Engaged journalism increases audience trust in journalists and journalism organizations and that trust results in audiences being willing to financially support the journalism.
