The Accelerator Ambassador Network, launched in April 2019, is a key part of the programme’s mission to connect people and organisations practising engaged journalism, and to strengthen knowledge sharing.
Our six Ambassadors – Anna (Social Spider, UK), Alicja (Outriders, Poland), Catherine (The Local, Sweden), Marianna (GEDI Digital, Italy), Pierre (Mediacités, France) and Ties (Are We Europe, The Netherlands) – are at the forefront of those efforts. This is an update about their work so far and an invitation to join them at their upcoming meetups.
The story so far
In the six months since the network was set up, our Ambassadors have each hosted meetups for journalists and other practitioners interested in community-driven journalism. They have also started engaged journalism experiments in their news organisations (more about these later).
Between them, the ambassadors have:
- Started a conversation about the value of community engagement, both for communities and for news organisations
- Shared best practices about how news organisations can better listen to their users
- Initiated a discussion around what a collaborative campaign for independent, engaged journalism could look like
- Created a Facebook group to help journalists working with their readers connect with one another
We’re grateful for their efforts so far and excited that they will host their second Accelerator meetups this month.
Join them in October
Each of the ambassadors will be holding a meetup in six cities during October. The scope of each gathering varies — some are evening workshops, others are a series of afternoon lightning talks— but they all welcome people working in, or interested in, community-driven journalism. If that’s you, or someone you know, we’d love for you join them. Simply register or contact the relevant Ambassador via email or Twitter to find out more.
