Madrid workshop - Accelerating engaged journalism

The Engaged Journalism Accelerator will gather over thirty journalists, researchers, and civic engagement practitioners in Madrid for a hands-on workshop.

Over two days, the group will explore ways that news organizations across Europe can integrate engagement into their reporting processes and business models.

This event is the first of five Accelerator events that seek to support, connect, and inspire the field of community journalism across Europe. You can read more about the Accelerator's mission here.

Learnings from the workshop will be published and shared on this page at a later date.

Interactive workshop: Working back from impact

Session host: Jon Alexander, co-founder, New Citizenship

Words and phrases like "impact" and "theory of change" can seem a long way away from the world of journalism - but the work of defining the impact you want to make, and how you intend to make it, can and should be both very simple and hugely creative. In this session, Jon will present a means for journalists to demonstrate their mission and value.

Session host: Clare Cook, co-founder, Media Innovation Studio

Coevolution is now much more important than competition or cooperation. In this session, Clare will guide us to work out how to become a ‘keystone’ species: moving in and between economic ecosystems that evolve around you at different speeds and with different shifting influence, and finding ways to contribute and connect to exploit this new competitive advantage.

14:45 - 15:00

Coffee break

Plus some time grab some fresh air and check emails.

15:00 - 16:30

Pro-action cafe

Up to four participants can offer to host pro-action cafes in which the group will discuss how to bring their ideas to fruition.
